Burger King Satisfries - A Healthier French Fry?

Burger King is trying to make it possible for you to say "yes" when asked if "you want fries with that" by coming out with healthier french fries called Satisfries.   Satisfries_Main

A small portion of Burger King Satisfries are 270 calories, 11 grams of fat (1.5 grams saturated fat), zero grams of trans fat and 300 milligrams of sodium.  To put that in persepctive, a small regular Burger King fry order is 340 calories, 15 grams of fat (2.5 grams saturated fat) and 480 milligrams of sodium.  So you're saving 70 calories, 4 grams of fat (1 saturated) and 180 milligrams of sodium by ordering Satisfries.  Still not exactly health food, and there's a lot of other foods you could spend 270 calories on, but every bit helps.

So how do Burger King Satisfries taste?  I knew Burger King would do a free promotion on Satisfries, so

sure enough, I was rewarded with waiting to try these when they did have one this past weekend.  And the answer is yes, Satisfries are truly satisfying and you don't need a big portion of them to feel that way.  The freebie was for the value size fry which is plenty--you don't need more than that.

What's nice about the Satisfries is that they are thicker crinkle cut french fries so you feel like you're having something substantial, and your taste buds focus on the rich, potato taste that is not drowned in grease or salt. They also have a nice light crispness to the outside.  A regular Burger King fry got in with my order and when I tasted it, I instantly noticed the grease and salt taste which overpowered the potato, and in retrospect was kind of gross in comparison.

A value size fry is only 190 calories and 8 grams of fat, 210 milligrams of sodium, so at the size not only is it a monetary value, but it's a side order you could live with from time to time as long as you make smart choices for your main meal.  But you have to choose that main meal very carefully.  The innocent looking grilled chicken sandwich at Burger King has 22 grams of fat if you leave the mayonnaise on it--omit it and save half the fat and 110 calories.  Same thing with the Veggie Burger--drop the mayo to bring the fat down to a bargain 5 grams of fat and save 100 calories.  Now if they could only skinny down other menu items to go with their healthier french fry, that would be wonderful!

Have you tried Satisfries?  What did you think?
