Healthy Food Review Albertsons Whole Wheat Cheese Ravioli

Hi All,

One of my pet peeves is that when you check out most prepared pasta dishes and restaurant pasta offerings, it's very hard to find whole wheat pasta.  Then when you do, you get the whole wheat pasta, but the cheese used is still high in fat.  So you get whole grains, but too much fat!

For example, I was recently quite pleased to see that Buitoni had created a Whole Wheat Four Cheese Ravioli, that offered a nice 5 grams of fiber per serving, but the fat content at 11 grams total per portion, with 6 grams of saturated fat, was higher than their traditional white pasta Light Four Cheese Ravioli at 4.5 grams of fat and 2 grams of saturated fat by far, so I had to pass on that offering.  Is there any logic to this?  (Tell Buitoni to put the whole wheat and "light" cheese together to make the healthiest possible version of their product at www.buitoni.com).

I'm pleased to say that after visiting my local new Albertsons freezer section, I stumbled upon their very own store brand Albertsons Whole Wheat Ravioli. Who would have thought it?  Albertsons to the rescue!  Albertsons totally gets it!

The Albertsons Whole Wheat Ravioli offers a whopping 7 grams of fiber and just 4.5 grams of total fat with 1 gram of saturated fat.  It also happens to taste terrific!  I pair it with Newman's Own Organic Marinara Sauce for a delicious, organic, low fat partner to the ravioli.

So make your next ravioli dinner the healthiest possible and support Albertsons smart decision to have this product.  Kudos Albertsons (www.Albertsons.com)!

The only slight issue I had with this product was that it was not where you would expect to find it in the frozen foods section.  For some reason, my local Albertsons had their Whole Wheat Ravioli in the breakfast section!  Then again, I just recently relocated back to Vegas, and given the night owl nature of the place, it just might be that people have Whole Wheat Ravioli for breakfast!
