There are tons of energy bars out there--some are basically just candy bars trying to masquerade as healthy food, others are nutritious and convenient snacks or meal replacements especially on the go.
I've tried a ton of them, but hand down, Clif Bars and many of the other members of the Clif Bar family are my favorites. Not just because of the taste, but because they range from 70% organic ingredients (and it is usually the key ingredients I like to see organic that are) to fully certified as organic, are free of hydrogenated oil (zero trans fat), are free of high-fructose corn syrup, are low in saturated fat, high protein and have a nice amount of fiber to boot.
My husband jokes that I should be Clif Bar's spokesperson because I buy my favorite Clif Bars--Peanut Toffee Buzz by the box. Plus, at any given time, looking in my pantry, you'll also see Chocolate Raspberry Luna Bars (my favorite) with runners up Chocolate Peppermint Stick and Peanut Butter Cookie, Clif Kid Z-Bars in Peanut Butter or Honey Graham (and no, we don't have kids), and Luna Vanilla Macadamia Teacakes.
We share the Clif Kid Z-Bars, and he secretly likes the same Luna Bars as I do with the addition of Nutz Over Chocolate (although not without making a lot of jokes about concerns for his masculinity as Clif Bars markets these to women--anecdotally I know, as I am sure the people at Clif Bar do, he's definitely not the only guy eating Luna Bars too).
Why so many varieties, sometimes it's taste and sometimes it's size or calorie content? Here's how I use them:
Clif Bars are meal replacement bars for me as they are usually about 250 filling calories. I especially love to pair this bar with Silk Chocolate Soy Milk for a high energy, delicious breakfast or lunch.
The Luna Bars and Clif Kid Z-Bars at 140-180 calories are snacks--especially before or after a workout. They are also a great way to satisfy a traditional candy bar craving.
With the wide variety of Clif Bar products available, you're bound to find your own delicious favorites that you can count on to be made with quality ingredients that will avoid the hydrogenated oil and high-fructose corn syrup you don't want.
